Arakawa River Clean Up this WEEKEND at Funaborori with limited participation to people who could come by bicycle (not using public transportation) as well as expanded participation time. Seven eco-warriors (3 on Saturday and 4 on Sunday) collected 88 bags of trash. I don’t have the photos for Saturday, but the photos of the piles of trash were left by the Saturday participants. This was about our 7th or 8th time at this location, so the pickings are getting slimmer or more specifically a bit harder to access, having to go into the high grass, etc. In the photos, that was only about 1/4 of the lighters and 1/2 of the balls collected. You can see the microplastics in two photos. They are all over this area and almost need to be shoveled up. The photo with the 3K post (distance to Tokyo Bay) was about 12 small bags, every single one of them containing cat food plastic containers and cans all mixed up. I’m happy someone is feeding the cats out there, but wish this LITTERBUG would take his trash home with him. This brings our total number of bags collected on the Arakawa in 2020 to 963 or on track to exceed 1,000 bags through the first four months.
