Seven volunteers collected 30 bags of trash at today’s Arakawa River clean up near Funabori. Aside from the American organizer and Swedish grass cutter, all participants today were from southeast Asia (2 Vietnamese, 2 Indians, 1 Nepalese and 1 Sri Lankan). Rain forecasts for today turned out to be completely wrong. It was beautiful weather without a single raindop. The high volumes of trash from last year are gone, but it was still quite dirty. After getting about 15 bags from the easy stuff that had recently flowed in, the rest of the event was mostly filling remaining bags with lots of small pieces of trash. In addition to large of amount of trash collected, we also made a lot of progress with the grass cutting, which from this point on should not grow back. Check out photos 6 and 7 in the line up for the before and after no the grass cutting.
