There was a big turnout today with the Arakawa River Clean Up at Funabori. Twenty ecowarriors collected 224 bags of trash, which was an all-time high for our group while today was basically a joint effort with Arakawa Clean Aid Forum also joining. The previous record had been 201 bags. Broken down, that was 153 40L bags, 56 20L bags and roughly equivalent of 15 bags on the large unbagged items. The weather was great and 7 or 8 people were first time participants. We were able to get such a large result because of some collection work done in preceding days by several Clean Aid Forum members who had collected a lot of trash from hard to reach places. We’ll keep working on this area, but it will likely take 50 if not 100 more clean-up events to get the bulk of the trash from the Funabori bridge to the island end at Tokyo Bay.
