Arakawa River Clean Up today at Funabori! Nine ecowarriors turned out and collected 58 bags of trash (53 actual bags + roughly equivalent to 5 bags for the large unbagged items. Another member posted some good before and after pictures and videos in the post below this one, so be sure to check those out. It was crazy weather today. Heavy rain when I left my house, clear and sunny when we started and then a sudden torrential downpour with nearby lightning strikes, which caused us to take refuge under a bridge for 30 min, then clear and sunny again and not overly hot. Toward the end we gave up on the straight line toward the mid-point between the bridge and worked on the “dirty angle,” which is notorious for being the dirtiest part of the Arakawa River. A bend in the river forces a lot of trash in the river into some tetropods, which start there and trap a lot of trash. As usual, we found some odd things in the “dirty angle” (see the last photo).
